My Approach To Therapy In Shoreham-by-Sea
If you’re considering therapy, you may be wondering what approach will best support you. Every person brings a unique story, different life experiences and individual challenges, so I don’t believe there is one therapeutic model that works for everyone.
My approach to therapy in Shoreham-by-Sea is centred on understanding you as a whole person. Rather than following a rigid method, I draw upon a range of established therapeutic approaches to create support that reflects your needs, your goals and your pace.
By combining professional knowledge with compassion, curiosity and practical tools, I aim to help you better understand yourself, strengthen emotional resilience and create lasting change.
My Philosophy Is To Treat The Person, Not Just The Problem
Emotional difficulties rarely exist in isolation. Anxiety, relationship struggles, low self-esteem and feeling emotionally overwhelmed are often connected to earlier experiences, learned beliefs and patterns that have developed over time.
I believe meaningful change comes from understanding these underlying patterns rather than simply managing symptoms. Many of the people I work with tell me they spend a great deal of time thinking, analysing and worrying, hoping they can think their way out of emotional pain. Whilst understanding our thoughts can be helpful, the answers we are looking for are not always found in the mind. Sometimes, healing begins when we reconnect with the wisdom of the body and gently listen to what our emotions are trying to tell us. This is one of the reasons I integrate Transformational Self-Love Therapy into my work, helping you move beyond overthinking towards deeper understanding, healing and lasting change.
I strive to create a safe, accepting and confidential space where you can explore your experiences without judgement. Together, we work towards developing greater self-awareness, emotional regulation and a deeper connection with yourself, allowing change to emerge naturally and sustainably.

My Philosophy Is To Treat The Person, Not Just The Problem
No single therapeutic model can meet everyone’s needs.
Some people benefit from understanding how their past influences the present. Others find practical techniques most helpful, while many need a combination of emotional insight, reflection and body awareness.
Rather than asking you to fit into one particular model, I tailor our work by drawing upon different evidence-based approaches that complement one another.
This flexible, integrative way of working allows sessions to remain responsive to your individual circumstances while providing both structure and compassion throughout the process.
The Therapeutic Approaches I Use
Each approach offers a different perspective, helping us understand your experiences from multiple angles while creating a personalised path forward.
Person-Centred Therapy
Person-Centred Therapy provides the foundation for much of my work. It places you at the centre of the therapeutic relationship, recognising that you are the expert in your own life.
By offering empathy, acceptance and genuine understanding, this approach creates a safe environment where you can explore difficult emotions, develop greater self-awareness and move towards meaningful personal growth.

Transactional Analysis helps us understand the patterns that influence how we think, communicate and relate to others.
Together we may explore:
- Repeating relationship patterns
- Early experiences shaping present reactions
- Internal beliefs affecting confidence
- Emotional triggers during conflict
- Communication within families and relationships
Greater understanding often creates greater choice, helping you respond differently rather than repeating familiar patterns.

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy focuses on the connection between thoughts, emotions and behaviours.
Where appropriate, CBT techniques can help identify unhelpful thinking patterns, develop healthier coping strategies and build practical skills that support everyday emotional wellbeing.
These tools can be particularly valuable alongside deeper therapeutic exploration, creating both immediate support and long-term understanding.

As an integrative practitioner, I don’t limit my work to one single model.
Instead, I thoughtfully combine different therapeutic approaches according to your individual needs, recognising that every person’s experiences, personality and goals are unique.
This flexibility allows our work to evolve naturally as your understanding and confidence grow throughout the therapeutic process.

Several years into my counselling career, I discovered Transformational Self-Love Therapy, also known as the I Love You Me Method.
After experiencing the approach personally, I chose to train as a Transformational Self-Love Coach because I recognised how powerfully it complemented my existing work.
This approach combines psychological understanding with body awareness and structured emotional processing, supporting integration across both mind and body rather than relying on conversation alone.
For many people, it offers an opportunity to reconnect with themselves on a deeper level while addressing emotional patterns that may feel difficult to shift through talking alone.
